The National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NOAA)
The National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) is dedicated to providing timely access to global environmental data from satellites and other sources to promote, protect, and enhance the Nation's economy, security, environment, & quality of life.
To fulfill its responsibilities, NESDIS acquires and manages the Nation's operational environmental satellites, operates the NOAA National Data Centers, provides data and information services including Earth system monitoring, performs official assessments of the environment, and conducts related research.
The NESDIS vision is to be the world's most comprehensive source and recognized authority for satellite products, environmental information, and official assessments of the environment in support of societal and economic decisions.
NOAA's Satellites and Information Service manages data relating to the Earth and solar environments, which is valuable information for students, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about our Earth-Sun environment.
NOAA Satellite Information System: Central location for finding information about NOAA environmental satellites (GOES and POES).
Argos Data Collection System (DCS): Argos DCS is an environmental data collection relay system that consists of in-situ data collection platforms equipped with sensors and transmitters and the Argos instrument aboard the NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites (POES).
GOES Data Collection System (DCS): A data relay system used to transmit observations from surface based environmental platforms through NOAA's geostationary satellites, for delivery back to the platform owner.
Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR)- the research arm of NOAA's Satellite and Information Service. STAR's mission is to transfer satellite observations of the land, atmosphere, ocean, and climate from scientific research and development into routine operations and to offer state-of-the-art data, products, and services to decision-makers.
The Office of Satellite Data Processing and Distribution (OSDPD)- collects, processes, and distributes environmental satellite data and derived products about Earth's weather, atmosphere, oceans, land, and near-space conditions to domestic and foreign users. The Office of Satellite Data Processing and Distribution (OSDPD) manages and directs the operation of the central ground facilities which ingest, process, and distribute environmental satellite data and derived products to domestic and foreign users. OSDPD maintains a continuous and reliable stream of satellite data and products. Satellite imagery and products are available on their website.
Sci-Jinks- Sci-Jinks is an interactive website developed by NASA and NOAA that has games, videos, downloads, help for teachers, information on weather, hurricans, tides, atmosphere, seasons, and space weather all developed from satellites.
