AT&T
AT&T is the largest communications holding company in the world by revenue. Operating globally under the AT&T brand, it offers one of the world’s most advanced and powerful global backbone networks, carrying 23.7 petabytes of data traffic on an average business day to nearly every continent and country, with up to 99.999 percent reliability. AT&T’s mission is to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work, and do it better than anyone else. It fulfills this vision by creating new solutions for consumers and businesses and by driving innovation in the communications and entertainment industry.
AT&T provides IP-based communications services to businesses. It also has the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network and the largest international coverage of any U.S. wireless carrier, offering the most phones that work in the most countries; the largest Wi-Fi network in the United States based on branded and operated hotspots; and the largest number of total broadband connections in the United States.
AT&T is making huge advances in the entertainment and communications industry. For example, it expanded its video offerings to include television services such as AT&T U-verse® TV and AT&T|DIRECTV as part integration strategy to deliver services across the three screens people rely on most — the mobile device, the PC and the TV.

Internship and Fellowships – As part of a long-standing commitment to higher education in science and technology, AT&T Labs offers two programs to graduate students: summer internships and three-year (ALFP) fellowships. Each summer, research interns from universities all over the U.S. come to AT&T Labs Research to work with individual technical staff members on research projects for 10 weeks. Candidates are typically graduate students, but advanced undergraduates will also be considered in exceptional cases.

The AT&T Labs Fellowship Program (ALFP) offers three-year fellowships to outstanding under-represented minority and women students pursuing PhD studies in computing and communications-related fields. AFLP fellows are partnered with a technical staff member to serve as their mentor for the duration of the program. The program emphasizes personal interaction between the ALFP fellow and their mentor. For the typical recipient, this personal interaction with a mentor is often the most important component of the program. In addition to one-on-one mentoring, the fellowship pays all education expenses as well as a living stipend. Each recipient participates in a summer internship the first summer in the program, working in a research team at AT&T Labs Research.

AT&T/Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide Job Shadow Initiative – By the end of 2010, the job shadow initiative reached more than 65,000 students in more than 211 cities. AT&T employees have volunteered more than 24,000 times for Job Shadow, dedicating nearly 200,000 volunteer hours, to help students learn. By the initiative’s conclusion, 100,000 students will have been provided with the opportunity to learn more about career options and what it takes to be successful in today’s workforce.

Aspire Mentoring Academy – We Teach Science and AT&T are collaborating through AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy on this pilot that will enable employees to share math skills and its relevance to the outside world through online e-mentoring. The program is expected to expand nationally next year. Aspire Mentoring Academy is the key community engagement program of AT&T’s $350 million investment in Aspire, focused on high school success leading to college and career readiness. AT&T Aspire community investments include deepening the financial commitment to local education focused groups that focus on STEM disciplines for students in underserved communities.
